Pinnacle Mountain State Park |
A close-to-town escape for summit views, shaded trails, picnics, and fresh air just west of Little Rock |
When Central Arkansas needs a quick reset, Pinnacle Mountain State Park is one of the easiest places to go.
Located just west of Little Rock, the park offers a mix of summit hikes, family-friendly trails, picnic areas, river views, mountain biking, boat access, and nature programs — all close enough for a morning outing, after-work walk, or weekend adventure.
The mountain itself is one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks, rising above the Arkansas River Valley and giving hikers sweeping views from the top. For a gentler visit, families can explore lower-elevation trails, walk through the arboretum, pack a picnic, or enjoy the park’s quieter natural areas without tackling the summit.
Pinnacle Mountain State Park also marks the eastern starting point of the Ouachita National Recreation Trail, which stretches more than 200 miles toward Oklahoma. That gives the park a larger role in Arkansas outdoor recreation while still feeling accessible for casual visitors.
Summer visitors should plan ahead: bring water, wear sturdy shoes, use sunscreen, and start early on hot days. Pets are welcome but must stay on leash.
Whether you’re chasing a view, introducing kids to Arkansas trails, or just looking for a simple outdoor break, Pinnacle Mountain remains one of Central Arkansas’ best everyday escapes. |
