Fall Without the Climb: Discover Pinnacle Mountain's Easier Trails |
Enjoy river-bottom forests, towering cypress trees and shorter walks without the summit scramble |

You do not have to climb to the summit to enjoy Pinnacle Mountain State Park this fall.
Just outside Little Rock, the park offers gentle walks, river-bottom scenery and opportunities to see wildlife without tackling its steep rocky slopes.
Start with Kingfisher Trail
The Kingfisher Trail is an easy, half-mile, hard-surfaced loop winding through the floodplain of the Little Maumelle River.
Its standout features include large baldcypress trees, birds and a sheltered forest setting that can be especially pleasant on a fall morning.
Arkansas tourism guidance estimates the loop takes about 30 to 45 minutes, making it an approachable outing for visitors who prefer a shorter walk.
The accessible trail is generally suitable for many visitors, though outdoor surfaces can develop cracks, debris and other changing conditions.
Explore the Arkansas Arboretum
The Arkansas Arboretum Trail offers another chance to enjoy native trees and changing seasonal foliage without attempting the mountain's summit trails.
The area introduces visitors to Arkansas plant life and can be a rewarding stop for anyone interested in nature photography.
Visitors should check the park's current trail map and conditions before setting out.
Plan a relaxed visit
For a low-key afternoon, combine one short trail with a stop at the park's picnic area or visitor center.
The park is located at 9600 Highway 300, Roland, Arkansas, and its visitor center is normally open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Picnic, arboretum and boat-launch areas are generally open from 6:30 a.m. until one hour after sunset.
Hours may vary with special events, maintenance or changing conditions.
Dry-weather precautions
Arkansas is experiencing heightened wildfire danger, and outdoor visitors should avoid any activity that creates sparks or open flames.
Bring drinking water even for short walks, stay on marked routes and follow any posted park restrictions.
For trail conditions and visitor information, contact Pinnacle Mountain State Park at 501-868-5806.
The best fall outing may be a quiet walk through the trees, not a race to the top. |
