Trivia Question❓

Which Little Rock landmark was once a railroad bridge before becoming a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Arkansas River?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Central Arkansas is set for an exciting Independence Day week, packed with fireworks, concerts, family activities, and special America 250 events celebrating the nation's 250th birthday.

In Little Rock, the largest celebration is Pops on the River, bringing food trucks, live music, a patriotic concert by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and fireworks over Main Street Bridge on July 4.

Events start early with Liberty Fest at Little Rock Air Force Base on July 1, featuring games, carnival rides, and fireworks at Heritage Park.

Nearby, Cabot hosts Pops at the Plex, and Benton offers the Red, White & Boom in Saline County.

Maumelle’s Fourth Fest and Conway’s America’s 250th Birthday Bash offer day-long entertainment and family fun, capped with spectacular fireworks.

Explore Arkansas history at the Old State House Museum’s “Arkansas250 Exhibit” or visit Hot Springs for a national park parade and lakeside fireworks.

Arkansas Venezuelan Community Collects Aid for Earthquake Victims

Members of Arkansas’ Venezuelan and broader Latino communities are collecting supplies in Little Rock to help victims of the recent earthquake disaster in Venezuela.

Organizers are gathering and packing donations at Geyer Springs United Methodist Church from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, with plans to ship the supplies to Venezuela on Wednesday.

The greatest need right now is equipment for rescue and recovery work, including heavy-duty gloves, protective glasses, protective masks, and construction materials that can help people safely sort through rubble.

For many Arkansas families with ties to Venezuela, the crisis is personal. Local organizer Wilson said she has spent days checking for updates from friends and family back home and wished she could travel there herself, but damaged infrastructure has made that impossible.

The effort has expanded beyond the Venezuelan community, with multiple Latin American organizations across Arkansas donating supplies and helping coordinate support.

Residents who want to help should bring accepted supplies to Geyer Springs United Methodist Church between 4 and 7 p.m. Monday or Tuesday before the shipment leaves Wednesday.

North Little Rock Event Center Opens Downtown

North Little Rock has a new gathering place in the heart of downtown.

The North Little Rock Event Center is now open at 120 Main Street, bringing a large new venue to the city’s Argenta area. The city describes the facility as a 31,000-square-foot event center with a ballroom, pre-function space and prep kitchen. It is designed to host up to 1,000 people for dinner or 1,500 for an event or show.

The center sits on the former site of the North Little Rock City Services Building and is expected to support conferences, banquets, community gatherings, performances and private events. Its downtown location also places visitors near Argenta restaurants, entertainment and riverfront attractions.

For residents, the opening adds another flexible event option on the north side of the river and gives North Little Rock a new tool for attracting regional meetings and celebrations.

Anyone interested in hosting an event can contact the center through the City of North Little Rock.

Little Rock residents in Ward 1 can weigh in tonight on proposed infrastructure projects tied to the city’s 2027–2029 bond planning.

The Public Works Department will gather community feedback from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Willie Hinton Resource Center. The meeting is meant to give residents a chance to share priorities for streets, drainage, sidewalks and other neighborhood improvements.

For Ward 1 residents, it is a direct opportunity to help shape which local projects move forward in the next bond cycle.

Conway Announces Council Meeting and Road Construction Update

Conway residents have two city updates to keep on their radar this week.

The Conway City Council has scheduled a special meeting to address the Ward 2 council vacancy, giving city leaders an opportunity to discuss the process for filling the open seat.

Meanwhile, construction continues on the new Salem Road and Meadowlake Road roundabout, with work having officially begun on June 1. The project is expected to improve traffic flow and safety at one of the city's busy intersections, though drivers should continue to expect construction activity and possible traffic delays while work is underway.

Residents can find the latest meeting notices and road construction updates on the City of Conway's official website.

Pulaski County Quorum Court Recap Highlights Grants and Vacancy Update
